Archeologists discover pulpit of historic mosque in Fariman

The Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT) quoted Hossein Abbaszadeh, head of the archaeology team, as saying on Sunday that in the research work in Sangbast site in the city of Fariman, in addition to the documentation of the complex, precise maps of the limits and privacy of the area were prepared.

He further remarked that in order to collect further information from the building which is known as the historical mosque of the city, probing was conducted which led to valuable results.

He added that parts of the excavations in that location led to the discovery of the columns with acrograhy and plaster floor with brick carpeting of the Middle Islamic era in the mosque.

He said the archeology team also in the southern veranda of the mosque discovered triplet brick columns with plaster decorations and the pulpit of the mosque the main part of which is intact.

Abbaszadeh pointed to the decorations of the Kufic inscription, brick cutting and plasterwork in the main veranda overlooking the yard and inside the mosque as other findings of the exploration operation.

He said there were colored decorations over the plaster inside the building part of which was discovered in the exploration.

The head of the archeology team said that protective measures that were taken during the excavation after the exploration operation, are being completed.
