214 human smuggling cases detected by Bazargan Customs

Masoumi said on Tuesday that 18 of the smuggled people were foreign nationals, adding that they were handed over to the judiciary after a preliminary case has been submitted.

Emphasizing that the customs had been equipped with advanced X-ray control equipment this September, he noted with the modernization of customs equipment, the discovery data on the border has grown considerably.

West Azerbaijan has faced a human trafficking problem in the past two decades due to its topographic status and its location along the borders of Iran with three countries of Turkey, Iraq and Azerbaijan, but this year these smugglers have faced many limitations.

Based on previous researches, one of the factors effective in human smuggling on West Azerbaijan borders is the profitability and geographical position of the region as the link between Asia and Europe.
