1st Russian An-124 plane lands at Payam Int’l Airport

The plane carrying 2 choppers arrived at Payam Airport for emergency purposes, Manouchehr Atghiaei told reporters on Friday.

The Antonov An-124 Ruslan is a strategic airlift jet aircraft. It was designed in the 1980s by the Antonov design bureau in the Ukrainian SSR, then part of the Soviet Union (USSR). Until the Boeing 747-8F, the An-124 was, for thirty years, the world's heaviest gross weight production cargo airplane and second heaviest operating cargo aircraft, behind the one-off Antonov An-225 (a greatly enlarged design based on the An-124).
First cargo flight landed at Payam International Airport on March 28 from Bishkek.

Some 48 cargo flights landed at Payam Airport last year which registered a 6-fold growth.

Payam Airport is an international cargo airport located in Karaj, 40 kilometers from Tehran, in the Alborz Province.

The airport was established in 1990 but was not opened officially until 1997.
