'Yaum-e-Ali' (PBUH) observed across Pakistan

To mark the day, symbolic funerals are held for the first Shia Imam (Taboot processions) in small and big cities, towns and villages mostly by Shia Muslims and mourning gatherings are held at Shia mosques and streets.

Yaum-e-Ali is observed every year on 21st of Ramadan across the world including South Asian countries.

Imam Ali (PBUH) is not only respected by Shia community in Pakistan but Sunni community in the country also pay special respect to the first Shia Imam.

On this day, Muslims around the world renew their commitment to the principles that Imam Ali exemplified, particularly the ethics of care, compassion, generosity, humanity, integrity, tolerance, forgiveness, brotherhood, and helping others.

The Shia population in Pakistan is estimated to be over 20 million out of the country's total 200 million population.

In order to avert any untoward situation, special security arrangements were made by the police where volunteers provided additional support to the police.

On the day, many local TV channels gave live coverage to the mourning processions and aired special programs to highlight the importance of the day for Muslims.

In different TV programs, religious experts on the occasion discussed personality of Imam Ali and his contributions towards Islam and humanity.

Last night on the eve of martyrdom of Imam Ali, Iranians in Pakistan also mourned for the first Shia Imam.
