Afghan official: No benefit for Muslims in cutting ties with Qatar

The remarks by Javid Faisal, deputy spokesperson in the office of the chief executive of Afghanistan, were made in a press conference on Monday.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates and Egypt declared on Monday that they had cut their diplomatic ties with Qatar. They have accused the gas-rich country of supporting terrorist organizations and extremism.

Calling the accusations baseless, Doha has rejected them.

The Afghan official added that Muslim countries by maintaining unity could contribute to establishing peace in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is to host a peace summit tomorrow with representatives of 27 countries and international bodies to discuss ways of establishing peace and security in the country and reaching a consensus on combating terrorism.

The four Arab countries, followed by some other Arab states, in the concerted action against Qatar also banned their citizen from travelling to the country, cut their transport link to it.

Iran has called on all parties of the latest tension among Persian Gulf countries to resort to prudence and restraint in dealing with the dispute.

“While the region and the entire world are still suffering from crises of terrorism, extremism and occupation of Palestine by the Zionist regime of Israel, the rise in tension among neighboring countries is not in the best interest of any state of the region,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
