Tremor jolts north-eastern Iran

According to the seismological center affiliated to Tehran University Geophysics Institute, the quake occurred at 20:52 hours local time (16:22 GMT).

The epicenter of the quake was recorded at 35.59 degrees latitude and 58.36 degrees longitude.

There is no immediate report on possible casualties or damage caused by the quake.

Iran sits astride several major faults in the earth's crust, and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating.
