
He made the remarks in a meeting with the State Secretary at Germany’s Federal Foreign Office Markus Eder.
Velayati described the relations between Iran and Germany as 'progressive' noting that frequent meetings between Iranian and German officials show the growth and depth of ties between Tehran and Berlin.
“Iran and Germany enjoy longstanding and historical relations and we attach importance to our ties with this country.”
Germany's decisive role in developing independent European policies in the European Union (EU) is important for Iran, Velayati noted.
He added that the recent developments in the region and the world demonstrate the constructive role of Germany.
The German diplomat for his part referred to increase of consultations between Tehran and Berlin and said that exchange of delegations between the two countries has grown which is a sign of promotion of the two countries’ ties.
“Tehran and Berlin have historical ties and the cultural commonalities between Iranian and German people have helped deepen relations between the two states.”
He said, “I am quite optimistic about the results of my meetings with the Iranian officials.”
The official called resolution of regional and international problems the main goal of his visit to Iran, adding that the visits help resolve the ongoing issues.
Talks between Iranian and German officials will be very much helpful for execution of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and improvement of nuclear agreement status, he added.
