
He made the remarks in the opening ceremony of 16th Iran International Environment Exhibition (24-27 February) kicked off here on Friday.
Wrong policies in the region lead to particle pollution crisis, aridity and desertification of the region, the foreign minister added.
He urged Iran’s neighbors to start serious and trustful cooperation for formulating a program to counter environmental damages caused during the ruling of former tyrant rulers of the region, including former Iraqi dictator Saddam and extremist groups, in particular Daesh.
“Islamic Republic extends hand of cooperation to all its neighbors in order to provide a better life for our children and to counter the dangers threatening the life of our generation and the future generations,” Zarif added.
He said, “This action is not only an environmental necessity but also a political and security issue and I hope that the leaders of countries pass this historical test with pride.”
Environmental cooperation can help trust building in the region and all regional states regardless of their policies need help in this area, Zarif noted.
He underlined that no issue is similar to the environmental issues in case of international attention and joint cooperation and collaboration for its resolution.
Zarif voiced hope that all countries do their best for resolution of joint challenges, including poverty alleviation and collective cooperation against terrorism and extremism.
“Green Economy, Resistance Economy” was motto of the 16th Iran International Environment Exhibition.
A total of 300 domestic and 20 foreign companies from Germany, South Korea, UK, the Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, China, Sweden, Finland, New Zealand, France, Japan, Russia, Norway and Austria have attended the four-day event.
