Addressing the ceremony, the Iranian ambassador to Muscat, Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Reza Nouri Shahroudi referred to the designation of the New Iranian Year as the “Year of Boosting Production” by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and expressed hope that production of Iranian commodities will witness significant growth in the New Year.
Nowruz this year falls simultaneous with the auspicious birth anniversary of Imam Ali (AS), the first Imam of Shia Muslims, which is celebrated in Iran as Father’s Day.
Both events, one as a great Iranian national day and the other as a major Islamic religious day, were celebrated by the participants.
Nowruz, the Persian New Year, is celebrated worldwide on the first day of spring (March 21).
In 2009, Nowruz was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity as a festivity of rich diversity promoting peace and solidarity across regions and generations.
In addition, the UN General Assembly in 2010 called the 21st of March the International Nowruz Day.
