The film was shown with Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyyed Abbas Salehi and Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfas Garayev in attendance.
Prior to screening the film, Majidi delivered a speech, saying, “Although the film was screened very late in Azerbaijan, I am still happy that it has been screened in the neighboring country which has numerous cultural commonalties with my country.”
The film is the outcome of a seven-year efforts by the Iranian and international cineastes, he said.
Some 200 films on Jesus Christ (PBUH) and 120 films on Moses (PBUH), 70 film on Buddha and 42 films on the lives of the other prophets have so far been made, but only two films have been produced on the life of the great Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) with the first dating backing to 43 years ago.
Majidi further noted that after three years since the production of the film, it has not yet been screened publicly in many Muslim countries, as it has been banned in Saudi Arabia.
Iran’s Cultural Week in Azerbaijan Republic opened in Baku on June 27 and will end on July 1.
