Justice (retd) Nasirul Mulk sworn in as caretaker PM of Pakistan

President Mamnoon Hussain administered oath to the caretaker prime minister at a ceremony where Senate Chairman, Deputy Chairman, politicians and military officials were also present too.

Justice (retd) Nasirul Mulk was unanimously nominated as caretaker prime minister by the government and opposition. He is the seventh caretaker prime minister of Pakistan.

The federal government completed its five-year constitutional term late Thursday, after which the interim government is set to take over the reins of the country from today onwards.

This is the first time in Pakistan’s history that a second consecutive democratic government has completed its five-year tenure. Pakistan is set to hold general elections on July 25.

Justice (r) Nasirul Mulk had served as the 22nd Chief Justice of Pakistan. Prior to becoming Chief Justice, he served as a judge in Peshawar High Court, and Chief Election Commissioner.
