IRNA chief criticizes certain countries for undermining world security

Zia Hashemi, who was in China to attend two international and regional meetings, made the remarks during a meeting with Vice President of China Radio International (CRI), Hu Bengsheng on the last day of his visit to China.

Hashemi urged the need for further media cooperation of Asian countries against the hegemony of Western media.

Noting that the United States has appeared as a 'fearful giant' over the past few years, Hashemi said, 'When I compare this person [Trump] with a wise and cultured person like (Chinese President) Xi Jinping, I get more hopeful that China will find its place as the number one power of the world and change the balance of power.'

China as a developed country and Iran as a country with a strategic position in the region need to boost their cooperation, IRNA managing-director said.

Hailing the key role of China Radio International (CRI) in Asia and the whole world, Hashemi voiced IRNA's readiness to cooperate with CRI.

He noted that increasing public awareness and breaking the hegemony of Western media will be among the main goals of cooperation between the two media.

CRI vice-president, for his part, expressed readiness on behalf of his media to share experiences with IRNA.

'We are ready to sign agreements with IRNA on cooperation on exchange of news,' Hu said.

He also said that CRI will spare no effort to help IRNA strengthen its bureau in Beijing and launch IRNA Chinese language outlet.
