US failure in adopting anti-Iran resolution, Washington full defeat

Instead of trying to find a comprehensive political solution to put an end to manslaughter of innocent people in Yemen, the United Nations Security Council turned out to be a scene of political disputes over Iran, Hamid Baeidinejad said in a Twitter message released on Tuesday.

The US paid no attention to Yemen in that resolution which was related to Yemen, he added.

The United States follows three goals: introducing Iran as violator of sanctions imposed on Yemen on the pretext of the missile issue, the UN resolution on Yemen and implementation of the Resolution 2231 pertaining to the issue as well as putting on the agenda Iran’s missiles program and finally by proving Iran’s violations paving the way for imposition of new UNSC sanctions against Iran, he said.

To achieve these goals, the US did not even have the full support of Western countries, therefore, the text of the resolution was subject to big changes and condemnations were simply replaced by “note with particular concern”, said the Iranian envoy.

The British draft had accused Iran of supplying arms to Yemen. Tehran has repeatedly and openly rejected the accusation.

The changes did not satisfy Russia and the resolution was vetoed and brought about a big defeat for the US and Haley herself, Baidinejad said.

The draft was vetoed by Russia receiving 11 votes in favor and two against - Russia and Bolivia - while China and Kazakhstan abstained.

A council resolution needs nine votes in favor and no vetoes by Russia, China, the United States, France or Britain to pass.
