Talabani laid to rest in Sulaymaniyeh

Hundreds of thousands of Iraqi people had gathered to bid farewell to the veteran Iraqi politician known as 'Mam Jalal' meaning 'uncle Jalal' among Kurdish people.

After the funeral ceremony in Sulaymaniyeh, the body of Talabani was carried to the city's Grand Mosque where Ammar Hakim, the leader of Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, said the final prayers over his body.

An Iranian top-ranking delegation led by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had also attended the funeral ceremony.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the ceremony, Zarif expressed hope that all people in Kurdistan region will return to the path of 'Mam Jalal who he described as the 'symbol of Iraq's unity and territorial integrity.'
