Zarif blasts US president's new travel ban for Iranians

'Trump’s fake empathy for Iranians rings ever more hollow, with his new and even more offensive travel ban against such outstanding citizens,' Zarif said in his Twitter message released on Sunday.

US President Donald Trump on Sunday announced a new travel restriction list which included Iran, Chad, Libya, Syria, North Korea, Venezuela, Somalia and Yemen.

Sudan has also been in the list but it was removed.

'Making America Safe is my number one priority. We will not admit those into our country we cannot safely vet,' Trump claimed in a Wednesday Twitter message.

'The Department of Homeland Security evaluated each country against the baseline described in subsection (c) of this section. The Secretary of Homeland Security identified 16 countries as being 'inadequate' based on an analysis of their identity-management protocols, information-sharing practices, and risk factors. Thirty-one additional countries were classified 'at risk' of becoming 'inadequate' based on those criteria,' The White House reported on Wednesday.

US new travel restrictions are scheduled to be implemented on October 18.

After issuing the case to Supreme Court of the United States which consisted of five democrat and five republican judges, the court approved implementation of the order with an exception for students and American nationals' relatives.

The Supreme Court of the United States is supposed to review the case.

In December 2015, after a deadly militant attack in Paris claimed by the ISIL group, then-candidate Trump called for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States”.

When Trump signed a 27 January executive order banning the entry of citizens from Yemen, Somalia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan and Libya, including permanent US residents, it was seen an implementation of his campaign promise.

But when challenged in courts on grounds of religious discrimination, the administration denied that the executive order is faith-based.
