Pakistan slams ongoing violence against Myanmar Muslims

The resolution moved by Minister for Law Zahid Hamid deplored the systematic and organized destruction of villages and homes of the Rohingya Muslims in the southeast Asian country, Radio Pakistan said.

It reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering solidarity with Rohingya Muslims for the realization of their civil, political, social, economic and cultural rights.

The resolution called upon the international community especially the United Nations Human Rights Council to urge Myanmar government to ensure protection of the rights of the Muslim minority in Myanmar, investigate the incidents of human rights violations against them and hold the perpetrators of violence accountable.

It urged the international community to provide humanitarian assistance to Rohingya Muslims.

Myanmar does not recognize the 1.1 million Rohingya as citizens, labeling them as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.

Earlier ambassador of Myanmar was called by Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua to convey a strong protest of the government and people of Pakistan, at the ongoing violence against the Rohingya Muslims in the Rakhine state in Myanmar.
