Scientific progress a must to get rid of dependency: Supreme Leader (UPDATED)

'Political dependency was finished with the blessing of [the Islamic] Revolution, but putting an end to other forms of dependency is difficult, dependency brings misery,' Ayatollah Khamenei said while addressing a group of the elite Iranian university students, best students of science Olympiads, top students of university entrance exams, and members of National Talents Foundation.

'Should you will to progress, you have to be under the West's protectorate. This is what some have been saying since a century ago, and their residual scum today are spreading the same idea,' the Leader noted.

'Fifty years ago during the Pahlavi tenure, we were under the West's protectorate; what achievements did we make then?' asked Ayatollah Khamenei.

He continued that the country's industry is infested with assemblage which, in turn, results in ineffectiveness of relations between industry and university.

'The country's industrial approach should shift track from assemblage to innovation in period of ten years,' stressed the Leader.
