
AFC on Wednesday announced at the end of final poll to select the best player in each post, with the late Hejazi, the goalkeeper of the Iranian national team with 59% of the fans’ votes.
In the poll, which was attended by 45,000 people, the Iraqi goalkeeper in the 2007 AFC Cup, Nour Sabri, won the second place with 37% of votes.
Muhammad al-Daaye from Saudi Arabia, Lee Won Jae from South Korea, Yoshikatsu Kavachi from Japan, and Mark Schwartz from Australia were other Hejazi rivals in the poll.
Nasser Hejazi, the last goalkeeper of the Iranian national team, won the championship in the 1972 and 1976.
Prior to this, Ali Daei, Ali Karimi and Mehdi Mahdavikia were selected as the best striker, best midfielder and best defender in Asian Cup history with the fans' poll.
Nasser Hejazi and Gholam Reza Takhty are the only sports figures named in the book titled Famous Names of Iran by names such as Abu Ali Sina, Saadi Shirazi, Abolqasem Ferdowsi, Attar Neyshaburi, Amir Kabir, Kamal al-Molk, Jalal Al-Ahmad, Parvin Etesami, Mahmoud Hesabi, Ali Shariati and Jafar Shahidi.
