Iranian swimmer collects 6th gold medal at Asian Para Games

Shahin Izadyar competed against swimmers from Indonesia, Kazakhstan and India in the 100m backstroke S10 on Friday.

He managed to get his hands on the wall at 1.09.23 seconds, winning his sixth swimming race at the Asian Para Games.

Iranian swimming prodigy had earlier bagged five other gold medals in the Men's 100M Butterfly S10, Men's 100M Freestyle S10, Men's 200M Individual Medley SM10, Men's 100M Breaststroke SB9 and Men's 50M Freestyle S10.

In the meantime, Mohammad Hossein Karimi grabbed bronze medal in Men's 50m crawl S12 and managed to get his hands on the wall at 00.26.24 seconds.

The third Asian Para Games, hosted by Jakarta, are held from October 8-16, with 2,880 athletes from 41 countries, competing against each other in 13 disciplines.

Overall 685 medals will be awarded, out of which 300 medals will be given to female athletes, 343 to male athletes and 41 symbol pendants and necklaces will be awarded in the mixed and team sports.

A total of 209 Iranian para-athletes have taken part in the games. They have already pocketed 130 medals including 49 gold, 41 silver and 40 bronze.
