Iranian female alysh fighter bags gold in Turkmenistan games

After having a rest in the first round of 55 kg Yazdani in the weight category of 55 kg, she defeated Philippines in the second macth and advanced to semi-final stage.

In semi-final match, she overpowered Turkmenistan and entered final stage.

In final stage, she hit Uzbek fighter and snatched the first gold medal for Iran's traditional wrestling in Ashgabat 2017.

The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games is underway with the attendance of 49 countries from Asia and Pacific in Ashgabat.

Iranian squad, including 214 athletes (115 male and 66 female) attended the event.

Iranian athletes participated in twenty fields namely, futsal, table tennis, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Sambo, Kurash, Jujutsu, bowling, billiards, cycling, track-and-field, swimming, weightlifting, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, Pahlavani wrestling, Alysh, basketball, taekwondo, horse-riding and chess.

Alysh is an upright wrestling style. Competitors wear trousers, jackets and belts, and must hold on to their opponents' belts at all times. Their objective is to throw their opponents onto the mat.
