Iran, Russia discuss sports relations

Sanaie pointed to Iranian Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Masoud Soltanifar's upcoming trip to Russia in mid-October.

He also referred to Iranian and Russian ministers' meeting as an important step in promoting cooperation.

Kolobkov also congratulated Iran's advancement to FIFA 2018, Sanaie said in a Telegram message.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed ways to implement sports agreements between Iran and Russia.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be the 21st FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by men's national teams of the member-associations of FIFA.

It is scheduled to take place in Russia on June 14-July 15, 2018, after the country was awarded the hosting rights on December 2, 2010. This will be the first World Cup held in Europe since 2006; all but one of the stadium venues are in European Russia, west of the Ural Mountains to keep travel time manageable.
