2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia is held at a time that President Hassan Rouhani has a heavy schedule and it is unlikely that the President be able to attend the event, Mahmoud Vaezi said on Wednesday.
He noted that the Iranian president is expected to pay visit to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit (SCO) 2018 upon an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Vaezi said that there have been also invitations for the President to visit Switzerland and Austria which is expected to happen after the holy month of Ramadan (ended June 15).
Elsewhere in his remarks, the President's chief of staff described the US officials' anti-Iran remarks as worthless and underlined the importance of preserving national solidarity and unity in this critical period of time.
The President of FIFA Gianni Infantino officially invited President Rouhani to the opening of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
On a visit to Iran a few months ago, Infantino had wanted President Rouhani to be a guest of FIFA at the opening ceremony.
