Head of Khorasan Razavi Chess Team Reza Pasha-Najati told IRNA on Friday that 50 foreign chess players and 150 chess players from Khorasan Razavi province and 200 from other provinces will compete in the event.
Foreign countries participating in the event include Britain, France, Russia, the US, India, Slovakia and Portugal, he said.
The participants will compete in nine rounds in the three categories of masters, amateurs and juniors under 14 in the Swiss method.
Ninth Ferdowsi International Cup opened in Mashad on Friday and will continue until March 8.
