Head of Asian Olympic Council lauds sports progress in Iran

'We will soon witness the beginning of golden era of sports in Iran,' Sheikh Ahmad Fahd al- Sabah told reporters upon arrival in Tehran for talks with Iranian sports officials. He also said his presence in Tehran would be beneficial to Iranian sports.

Salehi Amiri also said that Sheikh al-Sabah is an influential and important sports figure in the ancient continent.

In a meeting between Salehi Amiri and Sheikh Ahmad Fahd al-Sabah, Iran repeated its request to host Asia Olympic Council meeting in Tehran and for more attention be paid to Iran's National Olympic Academy in West Asia, so that it can host different athletics events.

He said that Sheikh Ahmad had already expressed readiness to offer help in developing sports in Iran.

The official said that Sheikh Ahmad Fahd Al-Sabah is to meet with former directors of National Olympic Committee as well as Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Masoud Soltanifar Sunday evening.

He is also scheduled to hold talks with First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri and heads of sports federations on Monday, Salehi Amiri added.
