Doping retest turns Iran’s silver medal to gold

In a public disclosure published on Saturday, IWF announced the positive doping results of the urine samples retest taken from five weightlifters that competed in 2012 London Summer Olympics, among which is the Ukrainian weightlifter Oleksiy Torokhtiy.

Iran’s then 105-kilogram weightlifter Navab Nassirshalal won the silver of the 105-kilogram category, where the gold medal went for Torokhtiy.

Torokhtiy’s medal will be granted to Nassirshalal, changing Iran’s weightlifting overall medal tally in 2012 London to three golds and two silvers which is the country’s best weightlifting results in all the Olympic games.

With the new gold medal, Iran will sit in the 13th place of the final rankings of 2012 Olympics.
