West after disintegration of Muslim states: Cleric

The latest effort to divide an Islamic country made in Iraq while the Western countries were to divide Iraqi Kurdistan from the country through the Sept 2017 referendum, Ayatollah Mohsen Qomi, deputy head of the Supreme Leader's office, said in this northeastern Iranian city.

At present, Western countries want to implement their plan in Syria, Qomi said at an Islamic gathering held in Mashad.

The Ayatollah went on to say that the important question of today's Islamic World is preservation of unity among the Islamic Ummah.

Ulema should play active role in culturalizing the goals of the Islamic Ummah, the senior cleric added.

Deputy head of Afghanistan's seminary Ayatollah Muhammad Hashem Salehi Modaress, who also participated in the Mashad meeting, stressed the importance of preserving unity among the Islamic Ummah.

The Afghan cleric said the enemy cannot hurt Islam as long as the Islamic Ummah is united.

The two-day scientific meeting on the Islamic civilization and the role of Afghan Ulema in the Islamic activities started work in Mashad, Khorasan Razavi Province, on Tuesday.
