WCO secretary-general sympathizes with victims of Iran’s earthquake

“I express my sympathy for Iran which has suffered earthquake of high magnitude,” he said, while addressing the 8th meeting of the heads of the customs administrations of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) countries in Islamabad.

A 7.3-magnitude earthquake shook the western province of Kermanshah and the regions bordering Iraq on Sunday night.

Based on the latest statistics, at least 430 people have been killed and over 7,156 injured in quake-stricken areas in Iran.

In 2003, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake killed 26,000 people in Bam in southeastern Iran and flattened the historic city. In August 2012, an earthquake killed more than 250 people in East Azerbaijan Province, northwestern Iran.
