US should destroy its chemical stockpile: Iran

The Iranian delegation is now in the Hague to attend Chemical Weapons Conventions.

The US as the biggest possessor of chemical weapons should take immediate action to destroy its chemical stockpile in line with its commitment, the Iranian envoy said.

Speaking at the 22nd chemical weapons convention in the Hague, he said that chemical stockpiles among member-states and terrorist groups seriously threaten global peace and security, he said.

Use of chemical weapons by terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq is the result of direct or indirect supports of some countries from these groups, Dehqani added.

He also criticized non-member states mainly the Zionists which possess weapons of mass destruction, but evade to join any international conventions, he said.

The Islamic Republic of Iran helped Syria to join the international convention, Dehqani reiterated.

Iran believes that Syria is among victims of terrorism and for several times has been targeted by chemical attacks of terrorists, he said.

The six-day 22nd chemical weapons convention in the Hague was concluded on Saturday.
