'Illegal arrest of the US-born Iranian anchor Marzieh Hashemi at the American St. Louis Airport a week ago indicated that their support for human rights is just empty rhetoric,' Larijani said at the Majlis open session this morning.
He added, 'Their behavior towards Iranian journalist showed that their belief in human rights is like what their [regional] allies did towards Jamal Khashoggi.' An allusion to slauthering Saudi critic journalist by Riyadh agents at Saudi Arabia consulate in Istanbul, Turkey in October, 2018, Larijani said.
If similar things, like what happened in the US to the Iranian journalist or in France to demonstrators, had occurred even in much smaller scale in Iran, their cries for the so-called defense of human rights would deafen the world,' Larijani noted.
The US-born Marzieh Hashemi (Melanie Franklin) who traveled to the US to visit her sick brother was arrested at St Louis Lambert International Airport on January 13 and transferred to a detention facility in Washington by FBI agents. She has been under arrest since then without being charged with any crime.
