
António Guterres on Thursday condemned an air strike by Saudi-led coalition forces that targeted a school bus travelling through a busy market area in the northern province of Saada which killed scores of children.
The Yemeni news agency, SABA, reported that the death toll rose to 43, most of whom were children under 13. The number of injured civilians also stood at 61.
The Secretary-General in his statement on Thursday called for an 'independent and prompt investigation' into this incident and extended his 'deepest condolences' to the families of the victims, the UN information website reported.
According to the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), since the beginning of the Saudi-led intervention in Yemen in 2015, about 2,400 children have been killed and 3,600 maimed in Yemen.
