From the time US President Donald Trump stepped to the White House, to date, Tehran-Washington relations have become darker every day to the point where the hopes for improving relations have been diminished at least in the Republican government.
In the past days, the Reuters news agency quoted three US officials indicating the possibility of placing the Revolution Guards in the US list of terrorist groups. Of course, this is not the first time that the United States is targeting the IRGC.
In July 2017, the US Senate representatives also voted in favor of placing not only the Qods Corps as an overseas branch of the IRGC, but the entire Revolutionary Guard, under cover of allegations such as supporting terrorism and destabilizing measures in the region on the sanctions list. In addition, in recent years, the US Treasury Department has consistently placed a number of individuals on the sanctions list under the pretext of affiliation with the Revolution Guard.
But placing the IRGC as the official and legal force of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the list of terrorist groups is not only contrary to international rules and conventions, but also highlights the unilateral and unconventional policies of Trump’s America exponentially; the policy that the Iranian authorities have condemned in different ways.
After the release of the news, Mohammad Ali Jafari, the Revolution Guards General Commander, warned that American forces in West Asia would not have any further calm in the event of the incident.
He added, 'If the Americans take such stubbornness and endanger our national security, we will put counter-measures operational in line with the policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran.'
Subsequently, MPs of parliament did not remain silent, and 255 MPs announced their support for the Revolution Guards Corps. They also warned the United States that if the Islamic Revolution Guards was included in the list of terrorist organizations, this would face with Iran's counter-measures.
The question now arises is why does the US seek to place an official Iranian organization in the terrorist group?
In recent years, the United States and its regional allies have worried about the increase in missile and military capabilities of Iran. Therefore, they have been working on various occasions to prevent the construction and testing of missiles by Iran. Repeated shows by American and Israeli officials to influence the general public's minds, as well as to show Iran's missile defense activities against the resolution 2231, are among their plans.
On the one hand, the Trump seeks to create restrictions on the development of Iran's military capability, and on the other hand, by concluding large arms agreements with the countries of the region intends to strengthen their military power in confronting Tehran. In addition to weaponry, some reports suggest that Trump will sell nuclear equipment to countries like Saudi Arabia is seeking to nuclearize Iran's rival.
Along with Saudi Arabia, the Zionist regime is backed by the United States at any cost. It was in this regard that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, after announcing the possibility of placing the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps on the list of terrorist groups wrote on his Twitter page, 'Those who prefer Netanyahu's interests to their country's interests and have always pursued the plot of naming the IRGC as the foreign terrorist organization, are fully aware of the consequences of this policy for US forces in the region.'
Zarif considers this possible US action as another catastrophe in the region while experts on international affairs warn of its consequences. Undoubtedly, Iran's first move will be 'reciprocal action' that the world's players use as a common practice.
In this regard, the head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the parliament, Heshmatullah Falahatpisheh underlines that if the IRGC is placed on the list of terrorist groups, the Iranian parliament will do the same.
'We have prepared a double-urgency bill that, as soon as this happens, we will announce the US troops alongside ISIS on the list of terrorist groups,' he said.
According to observers, if this decision is implemented, the Middle East region, which has recently been released from ISIS's sabotage and terrorist acts, will again be plunged into turbulence, and undoubtedly the scope of insecurity, as has been seen in recent years, will include the West. This is why experts challenge the United States' double standards in countering terrorism and believe that the continuation of such behaviors can be dangerous not only for a region. but also for the whole world.
