Top official lauds Russia support for Iran in UN Security Council

'Russia's measure to veto this resolution was a sign of growing and strategic relations between the two sides,' Member of Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati told reporters on Wednesday.

He also slammed the UK's anti-Iranian measures and London's role in drafting the resolution against Islamic Republic in the UN Security Council.

Russia has vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution allegedly condemning Iran for violating an arms embargo on Yemen.

Backed by the United States and France, the British-drafted resolution was supported with 11 votes in favor on Monday, before Russia used its veto and other member-states abstained from voting.

The US had repeatedly called for the imposition of a renewed embargo on Iran, claiming it was sending Iranian manufactured missiles to the Sana'a-based Houthi Ansarullah movement in Yemen.
