Tehran protests shooting Iranian sailors by Turkmen guards

The border guards of Turkmenistan shot at four Iranian fishermen who were fishing at the border line, Governor of Bandar Turkaman said.

The hunters who were from Bandar Turkaman entered the Caspian Sea last night and they were shot because they entered the border area, Elyas Hive Chi told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Wednesday.

Iran Foreign Ministry immediately followed up the case and issued official letters urging Turkmenistan government to elaborate on the incident, Bahram Qasemi said.

He referred to the friendly ties between the two countries, lashing out at the uncalculated measure by Turkmen border guards and shooting a non-military boat.

He went on to say that even if Iranian sailors trespass Turkmen border, guards should just warn them to avoid approaching the border line.

Qasemi called for an urgent explanation by Turkmen officials.

He also hoped for the issue to be clarified thanks to the friendly ties between two nations.
