Tbilisi respecting Iranian nationals: Georgian official

Mamuka Jangulashvili, during a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Georgia Javad Ghavam-Shahidi, said that the two countries need to cooperate so that Iranians can enter Georgia in a positive atmosphere and return home with pleasant memories.

Jangulashvili expressed Georgia’s willingness to expand collaborations with Iran and finalizing the recent agreements signed between the two countries.

He also added that in order to adapt to European regulations, the Georgian customs law will go through extensive changes in 2019.

He said that the changes will include all the countries and further information will be released soon.

The Georgian official went on to refer to the country’s import of construction materials from Iran and said that any imports will be subject to standard and valid certificates.

Shahidi, for his part, emphasized on following up the difficulties that Iranians had faced recently while entering Georgia and urged respecting Iranian religious and cultural values.

He pointed to the mounting trade and economic ties between the two countries and highlighted the importance of timely and accurate information dissemination on changes in customs law.
