Muallem, in a meeting with visiting Head of Iranian Parliament Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi, also acknowledged Iran's support for Syria.
The Iranian official, for his part, said that parliamentary relations constitute one of the aspects of strong ties between Tehran and Damascus.
Boroujerdi also emphasized that Iran is alongside Syria in the fight against terrorism until the final victory and the return of stability to Syria.
The two sides also stressed the importance of enhancing bilateral relations in every sphere, including parliamentary ties, as well as political coordination and maintaining the fight against terrorism.
Muallem and Boroujerdi urged that Iran and Syria have similar views as long as Iraq's integrity is concerned.
The two officials warned against negative repercussions of the September 25 separation referendum in stability of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and the future of war on terrorism.
Despite opposition by Iraq's federal government, international organizations and countries in the region, the Iraqi Kurdistan local government held a separation referendum in the northern parts of the country, including the disputed regions, such as Kirkuk.
Boroujerdi heading a parliamentary delegation arrived in Syrian capital Damascus on Tuesday night.
