Syria blasts silence of UN over incessant terrorist attacks against civilians

In two identical letters addressed to the UN Secretary General and President of the UN Security Council, Foreign and Expatriates Ministry blasted the silence of some UN member states over the incessant attacks of terrorists on civilian areas in Damascus which it said “amount to a genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.”

The ministry’s letters came in the wake of a deadly attack mounted by terrorists positioned in Eastern Ghouta who launched a rocket on a bustling public market in Kashkoul area in Jaramana near Damascus. 44 civilians were killed and scores others were injured.

On the same day, terrorists’ rockets also injured 10 civilians in al-Amara area in Damascus, causing massive damage to infrastructure.

“Representatives of the countries who scramble to convene emergency sessions in support of terrorists at the UN Security Council in New York and the Human Rights Council in Geneva have once again remained tight-lipped over this atrocious catastrophe whose victims are women and children,” the ministry pointed out.

“Syria stresses that this systematic behavior of these countries’ representatives lacks a minimal sense of human empathy, and their policies are definitely devoid of any moral sense, let alone any sense of respect for the international law and international humanitarian law,” the ministry added.

Yesterday’s crimes are part of incessant attacks that have been carried out since the beginning of the crisis in Syria by terrorist gangs whom some like to brand “moderate opposition”, the ministry said.

Since the crisis flared up, Syria has defended its right to protect its own citizens and put immense efforts to spare the Syrians and the world the massacres of terrorist groups, urging the sponsors of terrorist gangs to immediately desist from supporting terrorists.
