Swiss Parliament supports expansion of ties with Iran: Envoy

In a meeting with the Iranian Majlis speaker's special assistant Hussein Amir Abdollahian, the envoy assessed as 'positive' the recent visit of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Switzerland and said there are high capacities for upgrading Tehran-Bern relations in various fields.

Alluding to regional and international developments, Leitner said at present no one favors escalation of tension in the region and the world, calling on all belligerent parties to avoid any provocative actions.

Amir Abdollahian, for his part, lauded the Swiss government for signing a mutual agreement with Iran during President Rouhani's visit to that country following the US exit from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Given the current regional and international conditions and Tehran-Bern good ties, the Iranian official said time is ripe for enhancing parliamentary relations between the two countries.

He also blamed the tensions in the region on the Zionist regime's provocative actions and said the so called 'deal of the century' will get nowhere due to the hasty actions of (US President Donald) Trump and (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu and their ignoring the realities concerning Palestine.
