The panic-stricken people rushed to the streets in the quake-hit areas, the official added, noting that even mobile phones are disrupted.
Certain residential units have sustained cracks and a number of houses have collapsed, he said.
An earthquake measuring 7.6 on Richter scale hit some areas in Kermanshah province, western Iran, and other parts of Iran Sunday evening.
It was also felt in Iraq.
The quake occurred at 21:5 local time (18:35 GMT) and its epicenter was registered at 34.86 degrees latitude and 45.81 degrees longitude 11km deep in the ground in Ozgoleh region in Kermanshah Province.
