Singaporean rejects unilateralism across the world

Multilateralism should be strengthened, Vivian Balakrishnan said while speaking at the high-level meetings underway in New York, US, on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the Unites Nations (UN) General Assembly from September 25 to October 1.

At his remarks, Balakrishnan called on the UN to present practical strategies to counter seclusionism and promote multilateralism.

Based on the UN Charter, all member countries worldwide are accountable for cooperation with each other, the Singaporean foreign minister said.

Although Balakrishnan during his remarks about unilateralism did not refer directly to any specific country, his criticism was offered against the US unilateral actions.

US President Donald Trump withdrew unilaterally from the Iran Deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), on May 8. His move drew world leaders’ including the Europeans’ criticism.

As the Singaporean minister stressed, all should follow the rules agreed by the world countries, and this is necessary for the global stability.

Trump has waged a massive trade war against China, European Union (EU), Russia and other countries all over the world.

Observers believe that the US measures will ultimately bring isolation for that country.
