Russia invites Iran to attend Afghanistan conference

Based on the consultation of Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and India, conference on Afghanistan has been established in 2017 in Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement on Tuesday.

The first meeting of the Afghanistan conference was held with the attendance of deputy foreign ministers and representatives of Iran, Afghanistan, China, Pakistan, India, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan which are interested in solving Afghanistan problem on April 14, 2017.

The US rejected invitation to attend the conference.

The conference is aimed at helping promote national reconciliation and maintain peace in Afghanistan, the statement reads.

The Taliban Movement has also been invited to take part in the event.
