Russia explains agenda of Caspian Sea FMs meeting

The statement said that on December 4-5, Moscow hosted a regular Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Caspian Littoral States attended by the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan.

'The participants discussed a wide range of issues related to multilateral cooperation of the five nations and exchanged opinions on the international and regional agendas. The focus of attention was the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea. The parties expressed satisfaction with the results of the corresponding special working group of deputy foreign ministers from the five countries, and affirmed that the text of the Convention has been agreed in general.'

The officials also agreed to continue the expanded dialogue on all aspects of cooperation in the Caspian region with an emphasis on preparing for the fifth Caspian Summit in Kazakhstan in 2018, the statement said.

The text of the Convention on the Caspian Sea legal status is expected to be signed in the Aktau Summit.

In their Saturday meeting, The foreign ministers of the Caspian Sea littoral states are scheduled to prepare the special statement of the summit meet and sum up the performance of the special working group.

The Fifth Summit of the Caspian Sea littoral states is to open in the Kazakhstan port city of Aktau Sunday.
