Russia considers abrogation of JCPOA detrimental to int’l security

JCPOA stands for Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, official name of nuclear deal reached between Iran and 5+1 Group to give Iran sanctions relief in return for curbs on its nuclear program.

In a press conference on Thursday, she added that killing the deal will adversely affect the international security and Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Russian has on several occasions announced that the deal is non-negotiable and unchangeable, she said.

Zakharova pointed out that the agreement encompasses a balanced mechanism ensuring the interests of all parties concerned.

JCPOA was the outcome of compromise and political agreements, she said, reiterating that Russia does not deem it necessary to be committed to a separate deal that may be reached between the US and three European states—Britain, France and Germany.

Russia will throw its weight behind JCPOA and will not accept amendments to it, she said, noting that the country will continue to remain committed to the deal as long as the other parties do the same.
