During trade Iran-Turkey trade meeting after the fifth session of Iran-Turkey's supreme council for strategic relations, he added, “Presence of the two countries’ presidents in the meeting reveals the two governments’ resolve to promote bilateral relations and support private sector.”
Describing Iran and Turkey as safe countries in a turbulent region, he added, “If we are decided to take steps in favor of both nations, first condition is security and their security is not separate from each other.”
“We are resolved to establish security among the neighbors and we want to tell foreign powers that you cannot decide for future of the region,” he said.
Stressing that terrorist groups are detrimental to the region, Rouhani said that both countries are determined to purge the terrorists from the region.
Condemning US sanctions against Iran as oppressive, he said that threats can serve as an opportunity for both countries’ trade.
Providing necessary facilities for economic activities is another step in line with promoting bilateral relations, he said, noting that both sides have made good decisions regarding creating banking and monetary facilities and boosting economic communications between Tehran and Ankara.
Elsewhere in his speech, he voiced Iran’s readiness for meeting Turkey’s energy needs.
“Iran welcomes Turkish investors in the refinery, petrochemical and energy upstream and downstream industries,” he said.
Erdogan, for his part, said, “We should prevent US sanctions from being an obstacle in the way of the two countries’ trade.”
No country should think that bilateral ties have ended with sanctions, he said, noting, “We will reap fruits of our efforts and turning sanctions into opportunities.”
US unilateral sanctions will harm regional and international cooperation, he said.
Noting that Iran and Turkey have broadened relations, Erdogan said that the two countries aim to raise their commercial exchanges to 30 billion dollars.
President Rouhani’s trip to Ankara is a turning-point in broadening preferential trade between the two countries, he said.
In terms of regional security, Iran and Turkey shoulder a heavy burden, he said, noting that the two countries and Russia have taken effective measures in this respect, as economic security is dependent on regional security.
“Today, the world needs peace, we declare once again unacceptability of the sanctions against Iran and working together, we will leave behind negative impacts of the sanctions,” Erdogan said.
