President: Europe standing up to US today

'Europe has today stood by Iran; the Europe which has always been the US ally. And today, we are not alone all over the world. All countries, except a few ones are supporting Iran. They consider Iran as a country which can be trusted under any commitment,' said the president in a televised address.

President Rouhani said, 'Politically speaking, in my opinion, Europeans did their best. They took stances; they made comments and devised regulations; They explicitly termed the US conduct as unacceptable; Not only they (Europeans) but also the rest of the world did the same way; However, they should make plans in practice specifying the ways to compensate.'

He said Iran held talks in Europe and also with China and Russia. 'All of these have promised not to pay attention to sanctions; the problem is the companies that are under the US pressure; so, in my opinion, we are waiting for practical actions on the part of Europe. The meeting, which is to be held in late August, will be attended by Iran and five other countries, especially Europe, at the ministerial level on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, he announced.

'Sanctions will in fact be the ones to be in force by the US in the next three months as it will take actions in oil and banking sectors; what Europe, China and Russia promised is that they will insist on Iran oil imports while Iran will try to keep banking relations with the world.'
