Pak ministers lash out at US envoy over controversial remarks

The US envoy accused the premiere of ‘ball-tampering’ (a term in cricket used for cheating) in the Afghan peace process.

“Some aspects of cricket apply well in diplomacy, some do not. Imran Khan, important to resist the temptation to ball-tamper with the Afghanistan peace process and its internal affairs,” he tweeted.

Soon after Bass’ tweet, Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari in her response termed the US ambassador a “little pygmy”.

“Clearly you little pygmy your knowledge of ball tampering is as void as your understanding of Afghanistan and the region!

Clearly in your case ignorance is certainly not bliss! Another sign of Trumpian mischief a la Khalilzad style!” she wrote, referring to the US envoy leading the peace talks, Zalmay Khalilzad.

She further tweeted, you should focus on your P resident's tendency of violating international law and UN resolutions to satisfy Israel's list for annexing territory.

“You could do with a few lessons in diplomacy – or do you feel you can insult Pakistan and its leader and we will keep silent? Get real! You are nowhere with the peace process without support from Prime Minister Imran Khan and our govt.

So get a reality check,” said the minister.

Finance Minister Asad Umar raised questions over the envoy’s diplomatic skills.

“Your tweet shows you understand neither cricket nor diplomacy,” he said. “With the Afghan peace process at such a critical juncture, hope the US will be able to find better diplomatic skills to deal with the delicate issues at hand,” he said.

Minister of Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi echoed the same, added that Bass would never make the list of “good ambassadors of the US with that attitude.”
