Nasrallah: Secession of Iraqi Kurdistan threat to entire region

Speaking to a large gathering of mourners for Imam Hossein (AS) on Ashura night via videoconference in a southern suburb of Beirut, he added that today the region faces a dangerous situation.

Dividing the region is part of ‘New Middle East’ project which failed due to victory of Resistance Movement in the 33-day war in Lebanon in 2006, he said, noting that the plan to divide the region is aimed at transforming Israel to the strongest country to serve as an asylum for all tribes.

Warning that secession of KRG heralds splitting the region, he said that the issues of referendum or deciding fate do not matter; rather what matters is dividing the region based on racial and tribal traits.

This hazards is among the events the repercussions of which will persist for tens and hundreds of years, Nasrallah said.

He singled out Israel as the only backer of secession of Iraqi Kurdistan in the world, saying that this can serve as a yardstick to find out the issue.

Elsewhere in his speech, he said that Daesh is nearing its end in Syria and Iraq and it will not take long.

Daesh is carrying out suicide attacks to compensate its defeats but they will only take toll from the opposing party and will not bring victory to the terrorist group, he said.

Daesh was an instrument that was used in line with destroying the region and tarnishing the image of Islam, he said, noting that but today Daesh is closing to its final days in Iraq and Syria.

Israel is the only side which did not suffer losses from Daesh. Furthermore it gained benefits from emergence of the terrorist group, Nasrallah said.

He also warned Iraqi Kurdistan’s separation will also spread to Saudi Arabia which has more potential for getting divided than other countries.

Nasrallah also warned those who think that regional division will create no problem, saying that they are mistaken as in case of regional split, they themselves will never see peace and calm.

Regional division means drawing the region toward civil wars that God knows when they end, he said.

Nasrallah also stressed the need for maintaining stability in Lebanon, saying that the country’s expediency lies in dialogue among the groups and preserving stability.

Today, Hezbollah is in its strongest position as Israel has named it as the second regional army, he said.
