MP lauds importance of Erdogan visit to Iran

'Regarding the fresh developments in the region and when Daesh (also known as ISIS) is in decline and new versions of destabilization are emerging, Turkish president's visit to Iran is of high importance,' Ahmad Alireza Baygi said in a reference to the referendum held in the Iraqi semi-autonomous Kurdish region on September 25.

'These events will affect the region's status,' he said, noting the importance of cooperation between the neighbors to protect the regional stability.

'The two country's cooperation in the 'current' instable statutes of the region, can result in improvement of peace and stability in the region,' the official added.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently told a television channel in the country that he will pay an official visit to Iran on October 4, to hold talks with Iranian top officials.

Turkey and Iran maintain close ties, he told Turkish television A Haber on Friday, adding that during his visit to Tehran, he will discuss regional and bilateral issues, including fighting terrorism with the Iranian authorities.

Erdogan said that during his visit, the Iran-Turkey joint economic commission will also be held.

Prior to the visit, Turkey's Chief of Staff General Hulusi Akar will travel to Iran, according to the Turkish leader.

The Iranian and Turkish Presidents last met on Sep 10 on the sidelines of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Astana, Kazakhstan.
