Military mine blast kills one person in western Iran

The landmine went off in Ezgeleh in the Salas-e Babajani town on Saturday leaving one member of the demining team killed and one more wounded, Ali-Akbar Akbari Governor of Salas-e Babajani town in Kermanshah province said on Sunday.

According to Akbari, the injured deminer has been transferred to a hospital in the provincial capital, Kermanshah.

He is in good conditions, he said.

Kermanshah province maintain common border with Iraq and it was directly involved in Iran-Iraq war.

During the war imposed by Iraq on Iran, 16 million landmines were planted in over 4,200,000 hectare of lands in the Iranian provinces bordering Iraq by the army of the Ba'athist regime.

Seventeen percent of the abandoned mine lands have been located in Kermanshah.
