Asselborn, who is in Pakistan, made the announcement during a joint press conference with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi in Islamabad.
Expressing concern over the recent escalation of tension between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of the February 14 Pulwama attack in Kashmir region, Asselborn said Luxembourg is desirous of peace and stability in the region and offered that his country was ready to mediate between the two countries.
'The European Union is playing its role in (de-escalating tension) between Pakistan and India. Luxembourg is ready to mediate between India and Pakistan and India,' the minister said.
The minister also praised Pakistan's role in the ongoing Afghan peace talks.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi opined that tension with India appear to have been de-escalated, for which he credited the diplomacy of friendly countries.
He told reporters that a wide range of bilateral and regional issues were discussed during the meeting with his Luxembourg counterpart.
The matter of summit-level talks between Pakistan and the European Union was discussed, as well as steps being taken to reduce tension with India, Qureshi said.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a phone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart had urged Islamabad and New Delhi to show self-restraint following the escalation of tension between the two states.
The Iranian foreign minister said that Iran is ready to help achieving a peaceful resolution of dispute between Islamabad and New Delhi. He called for dialogue between the two neighboring states.
