Kurdistan referendum is 'history' now: Iraqi PM

“The referendum is now over,' said al-Abadi at his weekly press briefing held in the Iraqi capital on Tuesday.

'I now call for dialogue under the umbrella of the Iraqi Constitution,' IraqiNews.com quoted al-Abadi as referring to the recent voting in Iraqi Kurdistan which sparked a political crisis and lately the Iraqi incursion into Kirkuk.

The Iraqi flag belongs to all Iraqis and should be hoisted across the country, said the Iraqi prime minister

He further appreciated the Peshmerga fighters for their withdrawal during the operation conducted by the Iraqi Army in Kirkuk.

Al-Abadi further stressed 'Iraqi forces will not engage into infighting,' and “any assault on Kurds is an assault on us.'

He added his government would 'soon declare the liberation of all Iraqi territories and clearing the borderline with Syria.'

He underlined that he is committed to what he has already said to draw borders through peace.

Despite opposition by the Iraqi Federal Government and regional states, as well as international warnings, the KRG referendum was held on Sep 25 in some northern Iraqi provinces, including Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, and some disputed regions like Kirkuk.
